Laguna Powerclear UV Sterilizer/Clarifiers

Powerclear's strong ultraviolet light rapidly kills algae safely as it passes over the bulb. The germicidal effect of the lamp kills parasites before they can cause disease.

Powerclear works directly from a pond pump such as the Power Jet series, or as part of an external filter configuration.

For ultimate filtration combine the Powerclear UV Sterilizer with the Power Flo External Filter.

Kit includes 16' power cord, two universal Click-Fit couplings for 3/4", 1", and 1 1/4" hoses, and 16-watt quartz-sleeved bulb.

Use Model 1800 for ponds up to 1,800 gallons.

Important Safety Instructions.

1. Danger. To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken since water is employed in the use of pond equipment. To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed. Read and follow all safety instructions and all the important notices before using this appliance.
2. Do not immerse the product in water.
   • If the product drops into water, don't reach for it. First disconnect the item from the power supply and only after that take the item out of the water. Carefully check the product after installation. If any electrical parts are wet, disconnect the cord from the power supply.
   • The power supply cord of this appliance can only be replaced with a special cord. Do not operate any appliance which malfunctions, has a damaged cord, or has been dropped or damaged in any way. Never cut the cord.
   • If the appliance's electrical connections get wet, do not touch anything. Disconnect the power supply before performing any necessary maintenance.
3. Children must be closely supervised at all times near water.
4. Important: Always disconnect the appliance when not in use, before adding or removing parts, and before cleaning. Never yank the cord and never lift the appliance by the cable.
5. Never look into a UV lamp when switched on.
6. Do not use the appliance for any purpose other than that for which it is intended.
   • Do not use this appliance in swimming pools or other situations where people are immersed.
   • This product is designed to work with water not exceeding a temperature of 95 degrees (F).
   • Do not use this product with liquids other than water.
7. Do not expose the product to temperatures close to 32 degrees (F) or below. In winter, place the product in a dry and protected place.
8. Important: Electrical connection must be in accordance with data on the rating label. The appliance can be operated only after having been correctly installed. The electrical safety is guaranteed only when the item is connected to an earth circuit.
9. It is best not to use an extension cord. If an extension cord is necessary, check to be sure the connection is waterproof and the extension cord is at least equivalent (for thickness, insulation, and number of wires) to the cord of the appliance. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
10. Never use the product without water.
11. Important: The power supply should pass through a residual current device (RCD or GFCI - ground fault circuit interrupter) with rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA.
12. Save these instructions for future reference.

Electrical Installation

Place the UV Sterilizer in a fixed position, in a dry and protected place with sufficient ventilation around it.

• Protect the appliance from direct sunlight.
• Be sure that there is enough room around it for maintenance operations.
• To avoid overheating, do not cover the UV Sterilizer.

Warning: This appliance must be earth grounded.

Important: The maximum operating pressure is 0.1 MPa (1 bar).

Maintenance

Warning: Always stop the water supply and unplug or disconnect all appliances in the pond from the electricity supply while the equipment is being installed, repaired, maintained or handled. Never yank the cord and never lift the appliance by the cable.

It is recommended that you:

• Do not pull the internal wires.
• Make sure that internal parts of the appliance are dry before, during and after the maintenance operations.
• Check that all the components are present and have been reassembled in the correct way. If in doubt, consult your dealer for replacement of the defective component.
• Check that there are no leaks inside the appliance before connecting it to the electricity supply after maintenance.

Changing UV Lamp and Cleaning the Quartz Sleeve

Never look into a UV lamp.

To maintain optimum performance, the UV lamp should be replaced each year. An ideal time is spring, along with other pond maintenance. For cleaning, simply use a cloth. Do not use detergents or other chemical cleaners.

1. Unplug or disconnect all appliances in the pond from the power supply.
2. Stop the water supply and disconnect the hoses.
3. Unscrew the screws at the base and pour as much water as possible out of the unit.
4. Remove the cover by unscrewing the screws.
5. Pull the lamp holder paying attention not to move the wires from their original position.
6. Disconnect the end caps from the tube.
7. Take the lamp out with care.
8. Unscrew the two compression fittings by rotating them approximately 90 degrees counterclockwise.
9. Push the quartz sleeve from one side until it comes out from the other side.
10. Never use oil or other materials to lubricate the O-rings.
11. It is best to replace the O-rings every time the unit is opened.
12. Clean the quartz sleeve and polish with a soft cloth or paper towel. If there are limescale deposits, soak the quartz sleeve in a proprietary kettle descaling solution.
13. Check to ensure quartz sleeve is undamaged.
14. Make sure that internal parts of the appliance are dry before, during and after the maintenance operations.
15. Reverse the above mentioned operations for reassembly.
16. Check that all the components are present and have been reassembled in a correct way. If in doubt, consult your dealer for replacement parts.
17. Check that there are no leaks inside the appliance before reconnecting it to the power supply after maintenance.

UV light can seriously inhibit the effectiveness of some pond medications.
