TetraPond Green Free UV2 18 Watt Ultraviolet Water Clarifier
Pond Size Up To 4400 Gallons - 2,200 GPH
SKU: 639877
Dear Customer, Congratulations on the purchase of your advanced Tetra Pond Green Water Clarifier. The Tetra Pond Green Water Clarifier provides a permanent solution to the problem of the algae which cause "green water" in your pond. Once installed it ensures that the pond statys clear of algae by preventing its re-development, thus creating crystal clear water while reducing the possiblity of disease problems. Before installing the unit please read this instruction leaflet thoroughly and retain it for future reference. A. screw cap. B. UV-C high performance bulb (Phillips TUV PL-S 5 Watt) C. Bulb protector (UV 20000/ Uv 2 and Uv 35000/UV 3 only). D. Mounting Clamp. E. Quartz glass tube. F. Housing. G. Inlet/outlet hose connectors. H. Quartz glass tube O ring. I. Screws (for installation on Tetra Pond PF filter) The Tetra Pond Green Water Clarifier is suitable for use in all ponds up to the size recommended on the packaging(e.g. the UV 7000/UV 1 is for use in ponds up to 7000 liters (=1500 UK gallons or 1800 US gallons) in size.
Green Water: The TetraPond Green Water Clarifier, whilst providing a solution to the problem of green water does not rectifiy the cause i.e. high levels of nutrients in the water. These should be controlled through good planting, regular water quality testing and if necessary, water changes. Allowing nutrients to build up to high levels can stimulate the growth of other troublesome algae such as blanket weed.
How the TetraPond Green Water Clarifier Works: The clarifier works by exposing single celled algae to very high levels of ultra violet light as the pond water containing them is pumped through the unit. The ultra violet radiation not only kills the algae but also causes them to clump together. These clumps can easily be removed by using a pond filter. For most ponds with normal levels of green water the cleaning process should take about one week, however with thicker algal blooms this may take 2-3 weeks. The clarifier will kill the algae, but water clarity is dependent on the pond filter removing the dead algae. When installing the clarifier to a pond which already contains green water the clarifying process can be rapidly accelerated by carrying out regular partial water changes and the use of TetraPond AlgoRem/AquaRem. Turn unit off when treating the pond with medication (such as MediFin/DesaFin).
Installing Your TetraPond Green Water Clarifier: The TetraPond Green water clarifier is designed for use with standard garden pumps (for the correct sized pump please refer to the section on technical data). In order to ensure that maintenance and cleaning of the unit kept to a minimum, it is recommended that all pond pumps used have a pre-filter fitted.
Positioning Your Green Water Clarifier: 1. The TetraPond Green Water Clarifier is not submersible and should be positioned where there is little likelihood of flooding the unit or of it falling into the pond. The unit may be mounted on any surface, including the lid of the TetraPond Filter. When the UV clarifier is mounted on top of your TetraPond Filter you can use the enclosed screws (choose 7 mm/14" drill for screw holes). 2. Insert the UV-C bulb into the connector. (A) Note: Avoid touching the bulb with bare hands and remove any marks using a clean cloth. 3. Inlet and Outlet connections (E) are universal and water can flow through the unit in any direction. Choose the inlet connector size of the UV according to the inlet size of your pond filter. Make sure that the outlet size is at least as large as the inlet. For your convenience, this product comes with 2 different size hose connectors: 1/2" or 3/4". Ensure that the rubber-sealing ring (H) is in place beffore screwing the hose connector into the unit. For those ponds that incorporate rigid pipework, a fitting can be obtained which can be screwed directly into the hose connector threads. 4. If desired inlet and outlet hoses can be fitted to the unit and secured using hose clips (not included) 5. Plug the unit into the electrical outlet to start the UV operation. When working a purple (ultra violet light) can be seen through the transparent hose connectors. The harmful UV light will not pass through the transparent connectors. 6. An operational test can only be carried out when the equipment is fully assembled.
Maintenance and Care: When carrying out any maintenance the unit must be disconnected from the mains. Always remove inlet and outlet hoses and rain the unit of water before cleaning. Where algae densities in the pond are very high the unit should be cleaned regularly (every 3-5 days) until the problem is under control. Carefully dismantle the unit by first unscrewing the unit cap and removing the bulb. The quartz tube may be loosened by using a small coin or a screwdriver and can be carefully removed. Clean with a soft cloth to avoid scratching the quartz. When reassembling ensure that the sealing rings are properly seated (lubricate with a small amount of petroleum jelly if necessary). TetraPond Green Water Clarifier Bulbs should be replaced after 8000 hours (about once per year) in order to guarantee efficient operation. Replacement bulbs and quartz tubes are available from your local Tetra Pond retailer.
The TetraPond Green Water Clarifier in Winter: As long as the unit does not become iced up it can run throughout the winter. However, if there is a danger of icing, the unit should be stored in a frost free location for the duration of winter.
Safety First: Never submerge the unit in water. Always switch off the unit if there is no water running through it to prevent overheating. This unit produces harmful ultra violet light. Do not look directly at the unshielded bulb as damage to the eyes may occur. Monitoring of lamp operation should only take place by lookiing through the transparent hose connectors. When connecting the unit to the mains it is recommened that an inline residual current device (Ground Fault Circuit interrupter is recommended in the USA) should be installed or that the unit be wired directly into the mains using a residual current circuit breaker (GCFI is recommended in he USA).
