Hagen AquaClear Power Head Multifunctional Water Pumps

AquaClear Power Head Multifunctional Water Pump 50
For 20-50 gallon Aquariums - 270 GPH - Model 50
SKU: 172812

Creates powerful water circulation and currents

  • Forward and reverse flow feature.
  • Enhances water flow through undergravel filters, improving filtration efficiency.
  • Creates powerful water current for increased circulation inside the aquarium.
  • Filters out particles with the addition of the AquaClear Quickfilter (sold separately).

Outstanding Performance in Every Application
AquaClear Powerheads deliver outstanding performance in a variety of applications. They can efficiently drive undergravel filters, circulate and aerate aquarium water, and attach to filtration accessories such as the AquaClear Quick Filter to support crystal clear water conditions.

Raise Oxygen Levels
AquaClear Powerheads can be used to raise oxygen levels, which is important when there are increases in water temperature or fish population, and during the treatment of diseases.

Ideal for Fresh and Saltwater Applications
AquaClear Powerheads can also be connected to drive protein skimmers, which are essential devices for most marine aquariums.

Freshwater aquariums benefit from additional currents in many applications. Using a powerhead in combination with an AquaClear Quick Filter provides added safe mechanical filtration for cleaner water conditions and the protection of baby fish.

AquaClear Powerheads are indispensable in smaller reef aquariums where they can be easily hidden and still provide highly beneficial currents.

Reverse Flow Feature
AquaClear's unique reverse flow feature allows the powerhead to force water down the undergravel riser stem and beneath the gravel. This helps promote bacterial growth from the bottom up.

Innovative Design
In addition to being the ultimate submersible water movers, AquaClear Powerheads also include these great design, safety, and utility innovations:

  • Hermetically-sealed, completely submersible motor unit which is insulated with highly effective epoxy resin to insulate against harsh freshwater and saltwater environments.
  • Compact, energy-efficient motor unit is isolated to eliminate maintenance.
  • Convenient suction cups, attachment brackets (except Model 10), and hose connectors that allow quick and easy connections to protein skimmers, spray bars, and other accessories.
  • Adjustable rim attachment fits most aquariums.
  • Adapter cone fits most undergravel filter lift tubes.
  • Venturi system with control valve provides optional aeration.
  • Adjustable flow control allows for precise regulation.

AquaClear Power Head Multifunctional Water Pump 50
For 20-50 gallon Aquariums - 270 GPH - Model 50
SKU: 172812

Installation
Caution:
Disconnect the plugs of all the appliances inside the aquarium before putting your hands in the water.

Undergravel Filter Operation

  1. Determine the difference in height between the rim of the aquarium and the seated position of adapter cone in the undergravel filter riser stem (approximately four to seven inches).
  2. Cut or adjust undergravel riser stem to correct height.
  3. Seat powerhead adapter cone into the undergravel filter riser stem and rotate aquarium rim attachment knob to securely tighten the clamp to required aquarium rim width. Alternately, position suction cup bracket and slide powerhead into guides.

Note: Aquariums which use very fine grade gravel or sand may require nylon mesh placed over the strainer to prevent the powerhead from clogging in normal flow position

Operation

  1. Adjust water movement switch to green position for normal flow or red position for reversed flow.
  2. Adjust flow rate to desired strength if required.
  3. Connect cord to electrical outlet.

Quick Filter Operation
Powerhead 50 and 70 can easily be converted to a Quick Filter to remove dirt and debris quickly. The Quick Filter can be obtained from your local pet dealer.

  1. Load (optional) Quick Filter attachment with a Quick Filter Cartridge.
  2. Remove small top adapter of Quick Filter and insert powerhead strainer plate into Quick Filter firmly.
  3. Place unit into aquarium in desired location and clamp or use suction cup bracket to keep in position.
  4. Connect the cord to the electrical outlet.

<>Important: The powerhead must operate continuously to sustain filtering action and beneficial bacteria. Do not unplug the powerhead for periods in excess of one hour to avoid the reduction of the biological filtration.

    Important Safeguards
Warning. To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be observed when handling the powerhead, including the following:

    1. Read and follow all safety instructions and all important notices on the appliance before using, for the complete enjoyment, use and understanding of this product. Failure to do so may result in loss of fish life and/or damage to the unit.
    2. Danger. To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. For each of the following situations, do not attempt repairs yourself; return the appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.
      • If the water pump falls into the water, don't reach for it. First unplug it and then retrieve it. If electrical components of the appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.
      • If the water pump shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source.
      • Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
      • Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it is malfunctioning or dropped or damaged in any manner. The power cord of this appliance cannot be replaced; if the cord is damaged, the appliance should be discarded. Never cut the cord.
      • To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug or receptacle getting wet, position the appliance to one side of a wall-mounted receptacle and prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug. A drip loop should be arranged for the cord connecting appliance to receptacle or the connector if an extension cord is used, to prevent water traveling along the cord and coming in contact with the receptacle.

If the plug or receptacle does get wet, don't unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Then unplug and examine for presence of water.

    3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
    4. To avoid injury, do not touch moving or hot parts.
    5. Always unplug an appliance from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
    6. This is an aquarium pump. Do not use an appliance for other than intended use (i.e. don't use on swimming pools, garden ponds, bathrooms, etc.). The pump is suitable for use in water with temperature up to 35°C. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
    7. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.
    8. Make sure an appliance mounted on a tank is securely installed before operating it.
    9. Read and observe all important notices on the appliance.
    10. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with proper rating should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
    11. Caution: Powerhead must not run dry.
    Save the instructions.

Read and observe all manufacturer warnings, precautions, instructions, directions, and notices for safety and operation included with and on product.
