The Contech Scat Mat is a touch sensitive dog and cat repellent training pad which says no, when you can't.

This dog and cat repellent training pad quickly conditions pets to avoid prohibited areas with harmless, low-power electronic pulses similar to static electricity. Place the clear flexible vinyl Scat Mat in a room entrance, on your sofa, counter top or the hood of your car. The touch sensitive pad will silently protect prohibited areas from trespassers.

When the Scat Mat is touched, the battery sends small pulses to the mat for three seconds. These surprising little zaps quickly repel most animals who stay away after one or two exposures--even after the Scat Mat is removed.

Why it Works
Habituated behavior patterns are often correctable through simple avoidance of problem spots. When positioned where pet feet will be just before an unwanted behavior is exhibited (such as scratching, soiling, etc.), the Scat Mat sends a strong message to the pet while it is 'thinking' about performing an undesirable act.

Set Up 1. Remove the battery cover: Press down on arrow and slide forward. 2. Install a new alkaline battery. 3. Lay the ScatMat down, with the buttons facing up. 4. Snap the power pack to the buttons on the ScatMat. Push down firmly to make sure the buttons are snapped tightly. 5. You are now ready to test your ScatMat.
Testing the ScatMat

• Slide the switch on the Power Pack from Off to Low. The red light (marked action indicator) will blink for 4 seconds and then turn off.
• Touch the ScatMat with the side of your hand, rather than your sensitive fingers, to test its operation.
• Once the ScatMat senses your touch, it's Action Indicator lights up and sends static pulses to the Scatmat for 3 seconds; you will feel the pulses if you leave your hand touching across 2 wires. (These are visible upon close inspection, separated by about 3 cm (1.25 inches).
• The ScatMat's light will remain off, except when the mat is activating.

• The light blinks intermittently. Make sure your ScatMat is not in contact with anything metallic. Try turning off dimmer switches or any large electrical appliance that may be causing electrical interference.
• I feel something when touching the metal button on the bottom of the power pack. but nothing when I touch the ScatMat. Ensure that you are touching across two wires on the mat. If you still feel nothing you may have a break in one of the wires. Please call us 1-800-767-8658 or 1-250-652-0755 for assistance.
• My Pet steps on the Scatmat, but doesn't seem to feel anything Confirm that the unit is working. If it is, try increasing the setting to high. Otherwise, leave the mat in place a little longer: Eventually , even well insulated paws will step on two wires and feel the pulses.
• The light on my ScatMat is only flickering. Make sure that the power pack is securely snapped to the mat.
  Safety & Maintenance
  • Do not allow the metal buttons under the power pack to lie on a metallic or conductive surface.
  • Do not place metallic objects on the ScatMat. Do not use the near open gasoline containers, fuel spills, or other volatile combustibles such as propane.
  • Medtronic Canada, a pacemaker manufacturer, concluded that under normal use, the ScatMat presents no problem to individuals wearing one of their devices, even during accidental contact with an activated mat.
  • When not in use, always role your ScatMat
  • Clean your Scatmat with mild soapy water, do not submerge the electronics in water.
  • If your ScatMat arrives with creases, you can uncrease it by lying it flat in the sun, or by applying heat with a hairdryer on a low setting.
