Innotek Free Spirit Rechargeable Basic Trainer Plus

The safe, smart, easy way to train your dog. This system delivers continuous, tone/no tone stimulation, and tone with delayed stimulation at seven levels. The booster switch instantly boosts the stimulation two levels.

250 yard range.

This Innotek electronic dog training system is among the safest, most humane and effective training products you can buy. Used properly, the collar's electronic stimulation serves as a distraction that your dog will find undesirable. By obeying, your dog quickly learns to shut off the stimulation, thus gaining confidence in response to your commands. Like many Innotek training products, this collar has adjustable stimulation levels. This feature allows you to use the level that matches your dog's temperament.

The water-resistant, lightweight transmitter features continuous, tone/no tone stimulation, and tone with delayed stimulation at seven levels. The booster switch instantly boosts the stimulation two levels.

Transmitter operates off one of 2,048 random ID codes that allow it to communicate only with the receivers. In the unlikely event the ID code interferes with another system operating nearby, you can select another random ID code.

The water-resistant receiver box has an internal antenna, low battery indicator, and houses the probes which deliver the stimulation. Two sets of probes are provided so you can use the collar with dogs of varying coat thickness.

Kit includes the following components:

  • Transmitter: The compact hand-held transmitter sends a coded signal to the collar receiver and confirms operation whenever the button is pressed. It operates on a 12-volt alkaline battery.
  • Training Collar: This rugged, waterproof collar receiver is attached to a strap. The dog receives the correction from the transmitter via the collar receiver's probes. The collar receiver has some charge from the factory; however, you should fully charge the unit before the initial use.
  • Collar Probes: Two sets are included so you can use the collar with dogs of varying coat thickness.
  • Battery Charger: Recharges the collar receiver’s sealed battery. The charger can be plugged into any regular home wall socket (120 VAC, 60Hz). A full charge takes about 12 hours and lasts up to 70 hours, depending on use.
  • Test Light:To test the system, bridge the collar probes with the tester and press the transmitter button. If the lamp lights, the system is delivering stimulation.
  • Receptacle Covers: Fits tightly in the collar receiver's charging receptacle to keep out water and dirt. Spare covers are included. A receptacle cover should always be in place when the collar is not being charged.Instructional Video
For best results follow these important safeguards:

Important Safeguards

  1. Obey all warnings contained in the manual.
  2. The electronic dog collar is intended only for use on dogs. Never attempt to use this product for any purpose not specifically described in the manual.
  3. If you have any reason to believe that your dog may pose a danger to others, harm itself, or would react adversely after receiving stimulations from this training system, you should not rely solely on this product to train your dog.
  4. Do not leave the collar on your dog for more than 12 hours per day.
  5. Never perform set-up procedures when the collar is on your dog.
  6. Monitor the system prior to use and after changing any settings to ensure that the unit is operating properly.
  7. Do not use this system if you suspect the battery in the hand-held transmitter or charge on the collar receiver is low.
  8. Keep out of the reach of children.
  9. Your dog will not respond to the FS-25A unless:
    • You train your dog and utilize the Training Tips section of the manual.
    • The transmitter has a working battery and the collar receiver has an appropriate charge.
    • The collar receiver is synchronized to receive the messages from the handheld transmitter.
    • The collar receiver is worn properly by the dog.
    • The collar receiver is adjusted so that the probes are touching your dog's skin.
  10. Realize that because individual dogs have unique temperaments, there is no way of knowing how your dog will react to its introduction to the FS-25A. For the safety of your dog, initial training should take place using a long leash to keep you in control of the situation. Also realize that an aggressive dog could turn against the handler upon receiving the stimulation. Therefore, if you feel your dog has an aggressive temperament and/or it has a history of aggressive behavior, you should consult a certified animal behaviorist before using this product.
  11. If your dog has a medical condition, consult your veterinarian prior to using this product.

    Training Tips
When you begin your training with the FS-25A Basic Trainer Plus, keep in mind these tips:

    • Use conventional training methods to teach your dog basic commands. Wait until the dog understands your commands before introducing the collar as a reinforcement tool.
    • Have the dog wear the collar for a few hours each day for a week or two before using it for training.
    • The goal of training is to condition your dog to respond to your verbal commands regardless of whether it is wearing a training collar. Put the collar on the dog at least 30 minutes before beginning a training session. This can help prevent the dog from becoming collar-wise (obeying commands only when wearing the training collar).
    • Always make sure the collar is functioning properly before putting it on the dog.
    • The collar must be on relatively tight to keep the probes making skin contact without restricting breathing. You should be able to slide only one finger between the strap and the dog's skin at the back of its neck.
    • Always use the lowest stimulation level when beginning training. Proceed to higher stimulation levels only if necessary.
    • You will know when you have found the proper stimulation level when your dog responds to the stimulation with only a mild twitch of the neck, shoulder, head, or perk of the ears. If the dog cries out upon receiving the stimulation, you need to go to a less intense level. The dog should never cry out when the hand-held transmitter is set at the proper stimulation level.
    • Keep training sessions brief, about ten minutes. After a 30-minute rest period, repeat the training process. Dogs acquire habits through repetition, not necessarily through duration.
    • Never continue a session after the dog has lost interest. Take a break to rest or play.
    • Once you have started a program with your electronic remote trainer, never start a training session without it.
    • You should plan on using the collar for at least four months. A good rule is never take the dog out without the collar on. This will ensure that the dog is imprinted only with the correct response to your commands, and that you always have complete control.
    • Always end each session on a positive note. Have the dog repeat a mastered task. This will keep the dog's interest for the next training session.
    • Always praise your dog for good behavior!
Please take a few minutes to read the instruction manual prior to first use and retain the manual for future reference. The instruction manual contains important programming and set-up information to help your training proceed as successfully as possible. If you have any questions or concerns after reading this information, contact Innotek at 1-800-826-5527.

Transmitter Set-Up and Programming: To install/replace the battery remove the battery cover from the transmitter by placing the transmitter in your palm. Use the enclosed screwdriver to flip the battery cover by inserting and twisting in the slot. Insert the new 12 volt battery. Replace the battery cover. Whenever the battery is replaced, the transmitter must be reprogrammed and matched to the collar receiver. Follow all the instructions for set up and programming before using the transmitter.

Changing the Stimulation Level: All of the transmitter's settings may be easily changed by accessing the internal switches found within the transmitter's battery compartment. To access the switches and change the settings, remove the battery cover. Moving switches 1, 2, or 3 changes the level according to Table 1. (Note: UP is toward the battery). Choose one of the levels and move the switches with the screwdriver. Level 1 is the mildest stimulation (factory setting); Level 7 is the most intense stimulation.

Training Tip: When training the first time, Innotek recommends that you start with the lowest level of stimulation. Go to the next level only if you do not get the desired response from your dog.

Using the Booster Switch

  1. The level of stimulation that was set using Table 1 applies when the slide switch (Booster Switch) on the transmitter is pushed in the direction of the eyelet. Sliding the side switch towards the antenna raises the stimulation by two levels. For example, if the stimulation level is set at Level 2 and the side switch is towards the antenna, Level 4 stimulation will be delivered when the transmitter button is pressed. To return to the stimulation level set from Table 1, slide the side switch towards the eyelet.

Setting/Changing the Tone Mode:You have the choice of three tone modes: 1) Stimulation with tone ON, 2) Stimulation with tone OFF, and 3) Delayed stimulation with tone ON. To select a tone mode:

    • Stimulation with tone ON: move Switch 4 to the UP position (towards the battery) and Switch 5 to the DOWN position (away from the battery).
    • Stimulation with tone OFF: move Switches 4 and 5 to the UP positions (towards the battery).
    • Delayed stimulation with tone ON: move Switches 4 and 5 to the DOWN positions (away from the battery).

Changing the ID Code: If you experience any problems from other nearby training units, you may wish to select a different setting. To change the ID Code, access the battery compartment and change one of the settings on SWITCHES 6, 7 or 8. Replace the battery cover on the transmitter. Any time you change the ID code or replace the transmitter battery, you need to once again match the transmitter and receiver.

Charging the Collar Receiver and Matching It to the Transmitter:The collar receiver will have a partial charge when you receive it. To be assured of a full charge, go ahead and charge it before first use. To charge, remove the receptacle cover and connect the receiver to the battery charger. Always charge the collar receiver at or near room temperature; charging at low or high temperatures can reduce battery life. A full charge takes approximately 12 hours. A fully charged battery should operate up to 72 hours, depending on use. The receiver will be ON when you disconnect it from the charger and its light will be blinking yellow. Hold the collar receiver by the case, not by the probes, and press the transmitter button to electronically match the collar and transmitter. The receiver light will flicker red and stimulation will occur during matching. The light will then slowly blink green, indicating the unit is ON and ready to use. Remember to replace the receptacle cover. Never match the receiver while your dog is wearing the collar. To avoid confusing your dog, never use the collar when you suspect a low charge is causing intermittent operation.

Turning the Collar On and Off: The collar's ON/OFF switch is indicated by the red paper dot on the side of the receiver. It is activated by the transmitter's magnetic switch, which is also indicated by a red paper dot. To turn the collar ON, briefly hold the red paper dot on the transmitter against the red paper dot on the collar receiver. A slowly flashing green light indicates the collar is ON and ready for use. To turn the collar OFF, again briefly hold the red paper dot on the transmitter against the red paper dot on the collar receiver. A brief red light followed by no light indicates the unit has been turned OFF.

Important Note About Testing the System: Before putting the collar on your dog, test the system using the supplied test light. Position the test light on the probes so the probe tips make contact with the wires inside the two openings. Gentle pressure may be needed. Press the transmitter stimulation button and the lamp should light. The higher the stimulation level, the brighter the light will be. Only when certain the collar is functioning properly should you proceed with fitting the collar on your dog.

Fitting the Collar to Your Dog:
    Probes:
Use short probes for short-haired dogs. Use long probes for long-haired or thick-coated dogs. Finger-tighten the probes, then turn one additional revolution with the probe wrench. Do not over-tighten. Collar Strap: Place the collar around the dog's neck with the receiver under its chin. Fit the strap as snugly as possible, without restricting breathing. Make sure both probes contact the dog's skin. Remove the collar and trim the excess strap, leaving four to six inches (if desired).

Tips for Using the FS-25A Basic Trainer Plus

    • Always use the rubber insulators between the collar strap and probes to provide insulation in damp conditions.
    • If needed, a small amount of hair removal or thinning will improve probe contact with the skin. Do not shave the dog's neck.
    • Check your dog's neck daily for skin irritation while using the electronic training collar.
    • Never leave the collar on your dog for more than 12 hours a day or when you are away. Leaving the collar on the dog for extended periods could result in skin irritation.
    • Other metal collar should be removed from the dog when it wears the electronic training collar. It may interfere with the proper operation of the system.
    • This product is not recommended for dogs under six months of age.
    • Check the tightness of the probes regularly and frequently to prevent loss of the receiver box.
    • The hand-held transmitter is water resistant and should never be submerged in any liquid. The damage caused by getting it wet is not covered under the manufacturer's warranty.
    • Never place the hand-held transmitter or collar receiver in the dishwasher.
    • Do not attempt to dismantle or repair any of the components of your electronic training system; this will void the manufacturer's warranty in full. These components contain computerized circuitry tha
