Innotek Free Spirit Deluxe Advanced Trainer

The safe, smart, easy way to train your dog. This system features an easy to use transmitter that delivers 15 levels of momentary or continuous stimulation or tone with a 1,000 yard range.

This Innotek electronic dog collar is among the safest, most humane and effective training products you can buy. Used properly, the collar's electronic stimulus serves as a distraction that your dog will find undesirable. By obeying, your dog quickly learns to shut off the stimulus, thus gaining confidence in response to your commands. Like most Innotek training products, this collar has variable stimulation levels. This feature allows you to use the level that best matches your dog's temperament.

The hand-held transmitter features 15 preset levels of momentary or continuous stimulation and a tone only button. The water-resistant transmitter has a large, easy to read keypad and a digital display.

Continuous mode delivers stimulation for as long as you hold the button, up to ten seconds. To prevent over-correction, there is a ten second lockout. Momentary mode delivers a brief, pre-measured tap. The tone button delivers an audible tone that reinforces your dog's learning without stimulation.

The water-resistant receiver box has an internal antenna, low battery indicator, and houses the probes which deliver the stimulation. Two sets of probes are provided so you can use the collar with dogs of varying coat thickness.

Kit includes:

  • transmitter with digital display
  • antenna
  • waterproof training collar with rechargeable NiMH battery receiver
  • battery charger
  • collar probes
  • test light
  • 6-volt alkaline batteries for transmitter
  • probe wrench
  • instructional video

Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Power Up

Charge the collar 12 to 14 hours. Be sure to cover the charge jack with the gray plug when done. Insert batteries in the transmitter positive (+) side out.

Step 2: Match Components
Remove receiver from charger. Light will flash yellow. Press button on transmitter within 30 seconds. The components now work together.

Turning the Collar ON and OFF
Before putting collar on dog, briefly touch the two red paper dots together to turn the collar on.

ON: A brief, solid green light and tone indicate that the collar is on, ready to use. A green light will blink while the collar is on.
OFF: A brief, solid red light and tone indicate the collar has been turned off.

Step 3: Adjust the Collar
Proper Fit: The collar fit should be snug, yet loose enough to allow one finger to fit between the strap and dog's neck. Fit is important because a loose collar may cause inconsistent performance. It's okay to trim any excess strap length.

Understanding the Transmitter
This hand-held device signals the collar receiver to produce stimulation and/or tone. The transmitter is water-resistant and should not be immersed in water or placed in a dishwasher.

Transmitter Buttons: ADV-300P and ADV-1000P Users

Continuous: You control the length of stimulation by the time you press the button. For a short stimulation, press and release the button. For a longer stimulation, hold the button down. A maximum of ten seconds may be applied before the safety feature to prevent over-correction engages. After ten seconds, stimulation will be locked out for another ten seconds.

Momentary: Delivers a brief, pre-measured tap.

ID: Selects a random ID code from 2,048 available in case you experience interference problems from other nearby training units. Press and hold the button for three seconds. The display will show the letters PROG and quickly scroll through numbers and then go blank. A new code has been selected. Re-match the components as described in Step 2 of the Quick Start Guide.

Tone: Produces a tone from the collar. No stimulation is delivered.

Level Up: Increases stimulation level.

Level Down: Decreases stimulation level.

ADV-1002 Users
Dog 1--Provides stimulation for Dog 1:
Uses continuous stimulation, meaning that you control the length of stimulation by the time you press the button. For a short tap, press and release the button. For a longer signal, hold the button down. A maximum of ten seconds may be applied before the safety feature to prevent over-correction engages. After ten seconds, stimulation will be locked out for another ten seconds.

Dog 2--Provides stimulation for Dog 2: Also uses continuous stimulation.

Level Up: Increases stimulation level for the dog indicated in that column.

Level Down: Decreases stimulation level for the dog indicated in that column.

The Digital Display
When either the continuous or momentary buttons are pushed (1 or 2 on the ADV-1002), the display will indicate the stimulation level being transmitted. For ADV-1002 users, after the stimulation button is released, the dog number (Dog 1/Dog 2) and stimulation level will alternate briefly.

When the Level UP or Level DOWN button is pushed, the display will show the new level of stimulation.

LO BAT appears when the transmitter batteries need to be replaced.

ADV-300P and ADV-1000P Users
When the tone button is pressed, a small bar will appear to the left of the stimulation level 0 as no stimulation is being delivered.

Replacement Batteries
The ADV transmitters use two 6-volt alkaline batteries. These are commonly available where you bought your unit, where batteries are sold, or call 1-800-826-5527 to order direct from Innotek.

Understanding the Receiver
The ADV units use an LED light to let you know the status of the collar.

  • Blinking green light: collar is on and ready to use.
  • Pulsating red light: stimulation is being delivered.
  • Pulsating green light: tone only being delivered.
  • Blinking red light: low battery; charge as soon as possible.
  • Solid green light: over-correction timeout; wait ten seconds.
  • Blinking yellow light: collar should be matched to transmitter.

Testing the Receiver

  • Hold the test light across the receiver probes.
  • Press the transmitter button for stimulation.
  • Test light will illuminate for the length of time stimulation is being delivered.
  • The intensity of the light will increase as the level increases.

Charging the Receiver
The receiver has a long-life NiMH battery. It will take 12 to 14 hours to fully charge and will operate up to 72 hours between charges depending on use and temperature. Extreme temperatures (hot or cold) can significantly affect battery life. Always charge at room temperature.

Collar should be fully charged once every two to three months.

The receiver will need to be matched with the transmitter after charging. Follow Step 2 of the Quick Start Guide.

Matching the Transmitter and Receiver
Locate the red dot on transmitter and on receiver. Hold components together at the dots until the receiver LED glows green then amber. Press transmitter button; receiver LED will glow red and deliver stimulation. The components now work together. For the ADV-1002, do this step for Dog 1 using the yellow collar and Dog 2 using the black collar. Perform this step each time you charge the receiver collar, or replace transmitter battery.

Important Advice

  1. Read the complete instructions and follow all directions. If you have any questions, please call 1-800-826-5527.
  2. This device is intended for use only on dogs. Never attempt to use it for any purpose not described in the manual.
  3. Never perform set-up procedures while the collar is on your dog.
  4. Any collar worn for extended periods can cause a condition similar to bedsores, known as pressure necrosis. To reduce the possibility, you must do the following:
    • Never leave the collar on the dog for more than 12 consecutive hours.
    • Examine the dog's neck daily for any signs of a rash or a sore.
    • Supervise your dog during the first two days of training. Check the fit to prevent excessive pressure; you should be able to insert one finger between the collar strap and your dog's skin. Wash the dog's neck area and the probes of the collar weekly with a wash cloth and mild hand soap; rinse thoroughly. If the condition persists beyond 24 hours, see your veterinarian. Always use the rubber insulators between the collar strap and probes to provide insulation in damp conditions. Other collars and metal tags should be removed when using the remote training collar as they may interfere with proper operation. Do not attempt to dismantle or repair any components of this system; doing so will void the warranty in full. The computerized circuitry should be serviced only by an authorized expert.
