Omega Sea Premium Marine Salt is scientifically formulated to match the chemical composition of natural seawater. Pharmaceutical grade blending and careful analytical testing ensure a superior seawater that will meet the most stringent needs of research scientists, public aquarists, and marine hobbyists. This formula contains incredibly low levels of moisture, so it mixes easier and produces 20% more seawater than traditional salt mixes.
Mix Omega Sea Premium Marine Salt with deionized or reverse osmosis water in a bucket or large plastic barrel. This container should be clean and free of any chemicals, soaps, or detergents. If using tap water, a conditioner should be used to neutralize harmful chloramines, ammonia and heavy metals.
Mix 1/2 cup of salt with each U.S. gallon of water and adjust according to desired salinity. The recommended specific gravity (salinity) is 1.020-1.023 (29-33 ppt) for fish aquariums and 1.024-1.025 (34-35 ppt) for reef aquariums at 78 degrees F.
In new aquariums, saltwater can be mixed directly in the aquarium. Do not place animals in the aquarium until the salt is completely mixed, aerated, and salinity has been adjusted.
To measure specific gravity or salinity, use an accurate hydrometer, conductivity meter, or refractometer. If salinity is too high, add more water. If too low, add more Omega Sea Premium Marine Salt.
If any salt remains, tightly reseal bag in order to keep out moisture. Store remaining salt in a cool, dry place. To maintain water quality, a 25% exchange with new Omega Sea Premium Marine Salt is recommended on a monthly basis. WARNING: Not for human consumption. Keep out of reach of children.
