Long Haired Hamsters

Long Haired Hamsters, also known as Syrian hamsters, have long been a popular pet choice. They've also been given the name "Teddy Bear hamster" because their round body type and fluffy fur make them look like fuzzy teddy bears. They are easy to care for, but unlike their short-haired cousins, it is important to brush long haired hamsters to remove any substrate that gets caught in the hair and to keep it tangle free. Long haired hamsters are slower moving than the dwarf hamsters, making them a bit easier to handle. Their chubby bodies and cheeks stuffed with goodies are endearing. Don't let their sleeping fool you; hamsters are active and energetic animals that love an exercise wheel or run-about ball. Like other small animals, hamsters have teeth that grow continuously throughout their life, so they should be provided with chew sticks to prevent the teeth from becoming overgrown.
