Redfoot Tortoises are beautiful tortoises with incredible bold personalities. Their popularity can no doubt be attributed to their looks and relatively small adult size. A juvenile Redfoot Tortoise can be kept in a 20L terrarium, but an adult will need a large habitat. An easily accessible water dish for soaking is key to maintaining a healthy tortoise. You will notice they spend a good deal of time in the water dish, drinking and soaking. A shallow food dish should also be included in their habitat, but it can be removed once the tortoise is finished eating to allow more space. Use a substrate that will retain moisture and include moss in their habitat as well to keep humidity levels up in a range of 50-70%. Tortoises are very intelligent and will often approach you to see if you have any food for them. Handling Redfoot Tortoises is not difficult, making them a great family pet as well. Just make sure the kids know the tortoise will be passed down to them!
