Leopard Geckos are a hardy and docile gecko, a great first pet and beyond. They do not require large amounts of space or expensive lighting and have become increasingly popular pets over the years. With the growth in popularity came the development of color morphs, which through selective breeding have produced some incredibly beautiful color patterns over the years. It is not uncommon to receive a variety of different Leopard Geckos in Petco stores including but not limited to Normals, Albinos, Leucistics, and High Yellows. Though baby Leopard Geckos may be a bit jumpy or unaccustomed to handling, they are easily tamed. A large habitat is not necessary for a single Leopard Gecko. One can be kept in a 10 or 20L habitat throughout its life. Even though it is a highly debated topic, sand can be used for Leopard Geckos without causing impaction. Geckos spend most of their days sleeping in a hide. Because of this, many different options for gecko hides have been developed, including those like the one in our Petco store habitats, where you can still see the animals, but they feel that they are hidden. It is always a good idea to provide multiple hiding places for them, one in a warmer area and one in a cooler area. Providing a hide with moist moss can also be used as a shedding aid and also a way for the geckos to drink from the moisture. Other items should include a water bowl, a dish for worms, an under-tank heater or heat mat, and other decor to make the habitat look more attractive.
