Acanthastrea echinata (Aquacultured A&M)

Also known as a Starry Cup Coral, Artichoke Coral or Pineapple Coral.

This is a very hardy large polyp stony (LPS) coral that is slow growing, generally peaceful and has uniquie color looking very similar to the Favites abdita. They are very tolerant of a wide range of light intensities, and water quality, although it prefers moderate water flow and lighting. This coral has feeding tentacles capable of stinging nearby coral so adequate spacing should be provided when placing next to other coral. Acanthastrea echinata is capable of eating prey items as large as mysis shrimp and will benefit from frequent feedings. Benefits from the addition of trace elements, strontium and calcium. It is also important to maintain stable alkalinity and magnesium levels.
