Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss Reptile Substrate
Zoo Med New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is preferred over any other type of moss for reptile terrarium use due to its unique softness and amazing moisture-holding ability. This lush carpet-like reptile substrate moss can hold moisture up to 20 times its dry weight! New Zealand Sphagnum Moss is great for live plants and is incredibly long-lasting. After other reptile substrates have decomposed, this moss remains usable and can be washed and reused several times. This attractive reptile moss is harvested using sustainable methods to ensure that it will be around for future generations!
For use with most reptile species of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and invertebrates including Hermit Crabs. Can also be used with small snakes including Green Snakes, Ribbon Snakes, Garter Snakes, etc.
Moss can be used either dry or moistened as needed for various applications. Moss can be used to create attractive hiding places for lizards and snakes to reduce stress and make them feel secure. Also excellent for use around the base of live plants in terrariums.Cleaning: Our moss can be washed and reused several times before replacing with new moss. Frequency of cleaning will depend on the number if animals in your terrarium. Amphibians absorb water through their skin and are sensitive to toxins in their environment. If you detect a foul odor, or suspect that the moss may be dirty, you should clean or replace the moss.
To Clean: Remove the moss from your terrarium and place in a bucket of clean, dechlorinated water. Swirl the moss in the water, then remove it and "wring out" as much water as possible. Repeat this process until the moss appears clean and no foul odor is detected. Our moss should last 3 or 4 cleanings before it needs to be replaced with new moss.
