The vividly colored Undulated Trigger, or Orange-lined Trigger is a bright orange striped fish with a brown-ish green body, and blue highlights. As with other triggerfish, Balistapus undulatus will constantly rearrange rocks and gravel, all while "grunting" as a form of vocalization. Triggerfish also have the ability to lock their dorsal fins and spine while in crevices to make it difficult for predators to get the trigger out. Many triggerfish are known to have personalities similar to dogs, will recognize their owners, and have been known to squirt water as a "trick". Triggers can also change the intensity of their coloration, going from a faded and drab when sleeping or being submissive, to vibrant when healthy and unthreatened. Undulated Triggers should only housed with other aggressive fish.
