MMI Genomics, Inc.'s K9CheekSwab DNA Collection Brushes can be returned by regular US mail - no special handling is required. The swabbing procedure is completely non-invasive. No blood, hair or tissue needs to be extracted. Swabbing is done easily and comfortably by the pet owner, avoiding the trauma and expense of other sampling methods.

The Canine Heritage Standard and XL testing kits include: one K9CheekSwab DNA Collection Brush, a sample submission form, a Customer Reference Sheet and easy-to-follow DNA Sample Collection Instructions.

Complete the sample submission form, filling in all questions to the best of your ability. When sampling more than one dog, wash your hands between each sample to prevent cross-contamination. Withhold food at least one-half hour before collecting a sample for DNA testing. Visually inspect the dog's mouth between cheek and gums for food debris. The objective is to collect cheek epithelial cells, avoiding food debris. Write the dog's name or other identifier on the MMI Genomics' DNA CheekSwab wrapper.

Open the swab package by peeling back the loose edges of the DNA CheekSwab sleeve, about one inch. Grasp the swab's plastic handle and pull the swab out of the wrapper. Envision inserting a toothbrush inside the mouth, turning the bristles away from your teeth towards the cheek. The objective is to collect cheek epithelial cells. Steady your dog's head. Hold the swab by the applicator stick. Vigorously rub and rotate the swab's bristle head against the inside surface of the cheek for about 30 seconds. Immediately re-insert the swab into the DNA CheekSwab sleeve (no need to reseal the sleeve). Place the swab and Sample Submission Form inside the pre-paid mailer and drop in mailbox. No postage is necessary.

All returns or refunds are subject to a restocking fee of 15%. Shipping charges on returned products are the responsibility of the customer.

Test Results:
The Canine Heritage Breed Test can only identify the listed breeds. Due to the genetic complexity of a mixed breed dog, the number of identified breeds may vary and the possibility of not being able to identify any breeds can occur.

Because of inherent genetic randomness, a dog's visual appearance may vary from the breed(s) identified in the reported results. Such occurrences will not result in the issuance of a refund. All sales are final once services are rendered and results provided.

The Canine Heritage™ Breed Test is not designed for use as a purebred or paternity verification test and is not an established legal tool. A kennel or breed club certifies a dog's breed based on pedigree documentation. If necessary, kennel and breed clubs use legally recognized DNA paternity testing to verify relationship. These tests use a different type of DNA analysis than the Canine Heritage™ Breed Test.

Canine Heritage™ Breed Test only works for the breeds that have been validated. If your pet's breed composition contains non-validated breed(s) the test may identify breed(s) earlier in your dog's ancestry. This may cause identification of apparent unlikely breeds for your pet's composition.

The Canine Heritage™ Breed Test is for determining breed composition only. An individual may be able to infer health, personality, or behavior of a dog from the "general" characteristics of the identified breed(s). Individual results may vary, consult your veterinarian for issues relating to your pet's health and breed.

Currently the Canine Heritage™ Breed Test is sold only in the U.S. and Canada. The Canine Heritage™ Breed Test was developed and validated using United States dog breed populations. Breeds outside the United States and Canada may not be represented or identified by the Canine Heritage™ Breed Test.
