Directions for Assembly:

Fill the base with sand for added weight and stability.
Insert inner post into base.
Fill inner post with dry food or treats.
Set the tension spring.
Slide outer carpeted post over inner post.
Watch your cat enjoy!

Spring Tension Adjustment:

Lift spring with the wire handle and position to desired slot. To adjust spring tension for a more aggressive cat or larger cat pull upward to a higher slot which will make it more difficult for the cat to release food. For less aggressive cats or smaller cats such as kittens place the spring on a lower slot which will make it easier for the cat to release food. It may be necessary to try several spring postitions until the desired tension is achieved.

Introducing Your Cat to Pavlov's Cat:

Put sand or litter into the paw base and replace rubber plug. This will keep the scratching post from moving around when being used by your cat. Place inner post into the paw base.
Put food or treats into the inner post and place Pavlov's Cat where you want your cat to use it. (*note: this product works best with a small round shaped food since food with shapes and large size food may lock-up at the food exit hole. check with your local pet food supplier for food that will work.) Place outer carpeted post over inner post.
It's best to keep your cat away from other food while training since a hungry cat is trained easier. If your cat is already trained to use a scratching post, then remove the familiar scratching post or place it beside Pavlov's Cat. The old scratching post can be returned to its original location when your cat has mastered Pavlov's Cat.
It may help to rub some catnip onto the carpet to attract your cat.
Place your cat's front paws on the carpet and pull downward to release dry food into the bowl area.
Remove dry food that has been released and only allow your cat to eat a couple of pieces to keep its interest. Remember a hungry cat is easier to train.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 several times to insure your cat understands.
Now leave your cat alone with Pavlov's Cat and be patient. Your cat will smell the food inside the scratching post and if it is hungry enough it will go after it. It may take a few days for your cat to master Pavlov's Cat and during this time limit the amount of food you give your cat to keep it hungry and interested.
Be sure to reward your cat with lots of attention at each sign of progress.
