Feeding Directions
Ferrets will generally eat only as much as they need and will not over eat. An adult ferret consumes approximately one to two ounces of dry food per day over six to ten feedings. It is advisable to feed adult ferrets on a "free choice" basis; that is, keep the food dish filled with fresh food so that the animal may feed as desired around the clock.
When introducing a ferret to new food, begin by mixing the old and the new foods, gradually increasing the proportion of the new food over a seven to ten day period. This method allows time for the ferret to accept and adjust to the new food and will help prevent gastrointestinal problems.
Weaned kits (five to ten weeks old) are best introduced to Sheppard & Greene Super Premium Adult Formula by first adding water to make a mush-like meal. Mix two to three parts warm water to one part food. Let sit for about five to ten minutes, then stir. Feed this mixture to the kit(s) approximately four to six times per day removing any uneaten food after about one hour. At about ten weeks of age, most ferrets will have become accustomed to the diet and can be fed the food in dry form. Fresh water should be available at all times.
If you choose to supplement your ferret's diet with cooked meat, eggs, fruit, or vegetables, please remember that these should be given sparingly--no more than a teaspoon a day.
