The comical appearance of the Cubicus Boxfish makes this an aquarium favorite. Initially looking like a bright yellow die, the yellow turns to brown-ish yellow with age. Also known as the Yellow Boxfish, this is also a fish that is quite difficult to keep. Although the fish is very hardy, prestine water quality is a must, as high levels of stress can cause the fish to release a potent toxin, called ostracitoxin, which can destroy an entire tank. Does best if housed with passive tankmates, but not with Cleaner Wrasses as they will constantly pester the Boxfish in an attempt to clean it. The Boxfish will be extremely stressed from this and will more than likely release its toxins. Although the Cubicus Boxfish can be kept in a reef tank, tube worms will be picked and chewed on.
