Your live fish may not match the image shown due to natural variations in each species. Each companion animal is different in shape, color, and personality.
This Tang is a rich blue color with contrasting black and yellow stripes. Also known as a "hippo tang" or "regal tang" this fish requires a large amount of algae. Initially, this fish will hide in crevices and caves but will be much more out in the open when acclimated. Active in the day and asleep at night, the Blue Hepatus Tang enjoys areas of turbulent water as in its natural environment. This fish may "play dead" which is a normal behavior, with the exception of excessive scratching on its side. Somewhat of a high strung fish, the Blue Hepatus Tang tends to be a little more skittish than other fish.
Blue Hepatus Tang - Living Environment
A tank with live rock and decor to provide several hiding spots and plenty of swimming space is recommended. Although this species is one of the least aggressive of the tangs, they still tend to be most aggressive towards fish of similar form and color. To minimize aggression in a small aquarium it is recommended to have only one Tang.
