Indigenous to Asia, the Red Cap Oranda Goldfish (variety of the Oranda Goldfish) has a pearly white body and a distinctive bright red cap on its head. As one of the most popular species of goldfish in the world, Red Cap Orandas are typically identified by the distinct fleshy growth on their heads that somewhat resembles a raspberry, referred to as the wen. In addition, they have a long and flowing split caudal fin that has a tendency to fan out when coming to a halt. When provided with the proper water conditions and a healthy variety in their diet, a Red Cap Orandas' wen head growth will develop into a healthy form. Prevalently seen and kept as pond fish, this magnificent goldfish species does best with other slow swimmers within an aquatic habitat that is at least 30 gallons in size. Live plants are not the best option to have in a tank with these freshwater fish as they will nip at leaves, damaging a plant until it rots away. As they have origins stemming from the warmer waters of Asia, they have a lower tolerance in extremely cold water and they also must be kept away from pollution as their wens are susceptible to infection. Red Cap Orandas will also dig at the substrate creating divots and small valleys.
