Mollies are a peaceful and popular aquarium favorite. Natives of North and South America, the first molly was introduced to the aquarium industry between the late 1890's to the early 1900's. Hybrids were produced in large numbers by the 1920's. It is best kept with other peaceful fish in a well planted tank with plenty of open swimming area so the sailfin of the male can develop. Ideal tankmates other than Mollies would include (but not limited to) guppies, platies, swordtails, rasboras, tetras, loaches, plecos, and smaller catfish.
The Dalmatian Sailfin Molly prefers a degree of salinity in their water. It is highly recommended that the tank has one teaspoon of aquarium salt per two gallons of water.
