The Fluval 05 Series filters offer high end performance for the fish enthusiast. Replacing the Fluval 04 Series filters (Fluval 104, Fluval 204, Fluval 304 and Fluval 404), the Fluval 05 Series filters offer an assortment of new enhancements, including an updated Rim Connector and Intake Strainer.

The Fluval 05 Series filters (Fluval 105 is 125 GPH, Fluval 205 is 185 GPH, Fluval 305 is 260 GPH, and Fluval 405 is 340 GPH) offer several state-of-the-art features to ensure reliable operation and trouble-free maintenance. Media is packed into filter baskets at the factory in the recommended positions for basic filtration in order to save you time and guesswork. The instant prime handle ensures startup ease. Plus, to make maintenance quicker, the AquaStop valve creates an air – and watertight seal so you can disconnect hosing without breaking the vacuum that will be necessary to resume operation without priming. For added convenience, media baskets are self-contained and interchangeable so that media can be rinsed or replaced in each one, independently of others.

The intake assembly siphons aquarium water and suspended debris in through its clog-proof strainer. Water flows down through the foam screen frame, which traps large particulate matter. The filter’s powerful pump then draws the water up from the base of the unit through the media baskets for the customized stages of mechanical, chemical, and biological filtration that have been designed through media choices and placement.

Filter media removes both waste particles and liquid impurities and can also be actively treated to change the water’s chemical characteristics. As water flows, it brings oxygen into the system, feeding beneficial bacteria and breaking down nitrogenous wastes. After passing through all baskets, purified water enters the impeller well to be pumped back into the output hosing. As the output nozzle disburses the water, it creates currents that help break down wastes. All for a continuous flow of pure water, custom treated for a healthy thriving aquarium environment.

Unpack and identify all parts:

• Output nozzle assembly
• AquaStop valve
• Canister cover/pump housing
• Instant-prime handle (attached)
• Lift-lock clamps (attached)
• Impeller cover and cover gasket packed separately in a plastic bag
• Impeller shaft tool: Models 105 & 205 only
• Filter canister (media baskets inside)

Decide on Filter Placement

• The canister base must never be more than 4.5 ft. below the water level.
  Hosing must follow a straight path from the filter to the aquarium rim, with some slack, but no loops.
  • The water level should never be more than 7 in. below your aquarium rim.
  • Never install the filter above the water level. Intake tube should not be positioned in close proximity to an air source.

    Place bottom half of rim connector assemblies over top edge of aquarium

    • One for the intake and one for the Output. Do not place the Intake near the air source. Attach suction cups to rim connectors.

    Prepare intake & output connectors

    • Attach hosing to intake connector on the AquaStop Valve
    • Measure and cut hosing at a point about 4 inches beyond aquarium rim.
    • Attach hosing to intake assembly.
    • Click suction cup on to intake assembly.
    • Position top half of the rim connector assembly over the hosing.
    • Repeat Steps A through E to install the Output Nozzle. Note that the Factory Finished End of hosing should be attached to the AquaStop valve.
    Prepare the Filter Media
    • Remove the foam, foam screen frame, media, baskets and media cover from the filter canister. Note the sequence the media was packed in, this is the recommended media placement.
    • Rinse all with running water. Remove media from poly bags but do not remove the Carbon from the porous bag.
    • Place media in baskets, foam in foam screen frame. Place baskets and foam screen frame back in filter canister and put cover on top basket.

    Complete Canister Assembly

    • Carefully fit gasket into channel around base of cover
    • Position impeller cover over impeller
    • Place cover on canister and lock lid in place. DO NOT FILL CANISTER WITH WATER.

    Starting the Filter

    • Insert the AquaStop valve into take and output connectors on cover. Push silver lever all the way down to lock in place.
    • Open the AquaStop valve by pushing the black lever, all the way down.
    • Check all connections.
    • Pump the instant prime handle until canister fills completely with water.
    • Plug in filter.
