Pet Promise
Pets for the Planet
From the food they eat to the beds they sleep in, our pets leave behind a carbon paw print. But just as we find ourselves ‘going green’ in many ways, so, too, can our animal companions. And when you adopt an environmentally friendly approach to petcare, it’s not only better for the Earth, but healthy for your dog and cat as well.

Grand Prize Winner
For weed care, instead of using chemicals that can harm pets that nibble on grass, I use table salt, concentrated lemon juice and vinegar. It might take a little longer to work, but you will have peace of mind that your pet is safe in its own yard. - Billy

  • To help deodorize a litter box, instead of buying a pet litter deodorizer, I use dried green tea leaves. I drink tea daily and found out that green tea leaves are deodorizers. So now I let them dry them and put them in a litter box to help deodorize. - Sarah

  • I always re-use bags of dog food once they are empty. If it is a large bag, I will use it for my trash can liner in the kitchen. If it is a small bag, I will use it to scoop up dog feces. - Sally

  • Every time I do a water change from my freshwater fish tank, I save the water I took from the tank and put it in my potted flowers or outside in my garden. That way I get to re-use the water and my flowers and plants benefit too. - Joanne

  • I like to brush my pets daily, but what to do with all that hair? Put it among your plants! It breaks down slowly & adds nutrients to the ground. Birds also like to use it as nesting material. - Joan

  • Instead of buying new scratching posts for the cats, we use rolled up newspaper, fastened with twine or rubber bands. When the newspaper gets torn up, we recycle the paper and replace with the same set-up. - David

  • When you shred mail or other paper, it can be used to replace litter in the litterbox. - Laverne

  • Give your empty toilet paper and paper towel tubes to rodent pets like gerbils, hamsters, mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits as chew toys and hideouts. - Beth

  • While walking my dogs, I pick up all the trash along the way. My golden and lab do their part by carrying everything that we find in their doggie backpacks. At home, I recycle all the items. It's a win-win for everyone! - Jessica

  • Rather than getting rid of old socks, towels, or blankets, convert them into doggie things! Old socks balled up are a great toy, and towels and blankets can be used as bedding. - Samantha
