What You Need to Know about Chicken Jerky Products

At Petco, our top priority is always the health and well-being of animals, which is why it’s important to us that we provide you with information to help you make good choices for your pets.

Since September 2007, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has periodically cautioned consumers about a potential link between reported illnesses in dogs and consumption of chicken jerky products made in China.

Despite ongoing testing, the FDA has been unable to identify a definitive cause of the reported dog illnesses and has been unable to establish a direct link between the reported illnesses and China-sourced chicken jerky products. Neither the FDA nor our suppliers have recommended any recalls of chicken jerky products.

For our customers who prefer an alternative to jerky products manufactured in China, we are actively expanding our selection of these types of products manufactured in other locations. For example, we offer U.S.-made jerky treats, as well as a variety of other natural treat and chew options.

We continue to monitor the situation closely for any new information and will continue to share what we know with our customers.
