PETCO Foundation Partners with The Philanthropy Team to Offer Fundraising and Marketing Expertise to Seven Animal Shelters

SAN DIEGO (June 16, 2009) - As more and more animal shelters are faced with an increased demand on their programs and services, they are faced with a growing need to find more and new sources of revenue. The Petco Foundation today announced that it is partnering with The Philanthropy Team (www.philanthropyteam.com), an Arizona-based company that specializes in fundraising and marketing services for animal shelters, to offer fundraising assistance to select animal shelters across the nation.

The Philanthropy Team will provide fundraising and marketing consultation to selected animal shelters for one calendar year to help them (shelter) develop financial independence and sustainability through hands-on strategic planning and training from company President, Tim Crum. Crum has 20-years of fundraising and marketing experience, with the last ten years spent as a senior-level executive within the animal welfare industry.

"The PETCO Foundation is very pleased to announce our partnership with The Philanthropy Team enabling select animal welfare organizations to receive the fundraising and marketing assistance they desperately seek but otherwise could not afford," comments Paul Jolly, PETCO Foundation's Executive Director. "Given the current economic crisis there is a legitimate concern that some of these organizations may be struggling to continue funding their operations. We feel that The Philanthropy Team's experience in the animal welfare industry will serve to mentor, develop and empower financial stability and independence to these select animal welfare groups."

applying for this program must meet the following requirements:

Many animal shelters, because of their limited budget and small staff size, struggle to adequately market themselves and raise enough funds to sustain their operational costs. Through this program, the PETCO Foundation will provide an expert fund raiser and marketer to assist non-profit animal welfare organizations (awo) by helping the animal shelter staff develop a comprehensive strategic marketing and fundraising plan. The Philanthropy Team will work closely with staff to train and develop their fundraising and marketing skills with the goal of educating and empowering the staff to sustain their organization's financial and marketing ability. Select animal shelter staff will receive assistance in a myriad of areas, depending on their organizational needs, ranging from: event planning and management; membership and direct mail campaigns; on-line fundraising; grant writing and corporate sponsorship; as well as media and community relations.

The Philanthropy Team will work on-site for one-week at each shelter to review and understand the organizations past and current fundraising and marketing efforts and techniques; then work with staff to create a comprehensive strategy designed to increase fundraising efforts and marketing exposure; followed by a three-to-five day training course on fundraising and marketing for the organization's entire staff, volunteer and board. The Philanthropy Team will also be available for support and guidance around the clock and available for personal consultation on anything from running special events to applying for a grant from a foundation to proof-reading a press release.

The mission of The Philanthropy Team is to assist non-profit animal welfare organizations by conducting successful and cost-effective fundraising campaigns. The Philanthropy Team was created by Tim Crum, a career non-profit fundraiser and marketer who felt that too many non-profit animal welfare organizations did not have the financial means to hire an experienced fundraiser that could help their organization achieve financial stability and independence. The company specializes in providing non-profit animal welfare groups with the expertise and tools needed to help them raise more money, acquire new donors and run better special events.
