Travel by Car
You'll inevitably need to take your cat on a car ride at least once a year, even if it's just to the kitty doctor. Here's how to make the trip as tolerable as possible for your finicky feline friend. It is a good idea to line cat carriers or portable cat kennels with a towel or newspaper in case your kitty gets sick. Avoid feeding your cat within three to four hours of your trip. If your cat still gets motion sickness, discuss your options with your veterinarian. If you are on an extended drive, offer your cat food and water and access to her litter box at rest stops.

Jet-Setting Kitty
Before you fly the friendly skies with your cat in tow, head over to your veterinarian's office so your cat can get an exam. If the vet thinks your kitty would be better off with her paws firmly planted on the ground, you'll need to make other arrangements. To find a pet-sitter or boarding cat kennels near you, visit Fetch! Pet Care. If your cat is ready to travel and ride in an airplane cargo area, write "Live Animal" on her cat carrier in letters at least 1 inch high. Keep cat carriers securely shut but unlocked in case airline employees need to open it.

Traveling with Your Cat
If you're taking your favorite feline with you on vacation, make sure you go by the book when making your plans. The most important item for a traveling cat is a quality carrier. It should be as comfortable and sturdy as possible. Give as much consideration to choosing cat carriers as you would a child's car seat. Traveling with your cat limits you to primarily transportation by air and car. Some local train and bus carriers may allow small animals in cat kennels or cages, but this varies between individual lines. If you must travel by train or bus, check to see if you need to make specific arrangements, such as transporting your pet via air cargo.

Finding a Pet Sitter
Some cats just don't do well in cat kennels. For these cats, pet sitters can be a great solution. However, it can be scary to trust your home and your precious companion to someone when you're out of town, so you need to find the right person. Consider Fetch! Pet Care and arrange for your furry friend and the new sitter to meet before you leave so you have a chance to see how they interact.
