Assembly Instructions
Step 1
Find the 16 Phillips head screws and four side panels. Take two panels and lay one panel with Doggie Dooley logo up on edge of table so the recess is at the edge. Take the second panel and place the angle side into the recess are on first panel, line up holes and screw together. Assemble two sides at a time, then take the two pre-assembled sides, stand up on table or flat surface, line up recess area and angle, and then screw together.
Step 2
Place lid upside down on table or flat surface, place unit upside down into lid, lining up holes in hinge with holes in panel. Hinge should fall over the three holes on outside of unit. Insert nut into center holder on inside of the unit, then from the outside of the unit screw bolt in, and tighten with a Phillips screwdriver, repeat with remaining two bolts.
Step 3
While unit is still upside down, push square snap-in support bracket into place on inside of unit. Bracket should snap into place locking the top of the unit. Your unit is now complete and ready to be placed into the ground.
Placing Unit Into Ground
- Lower the assembled unit into the hole. Make any adjustments to achieve the correct height.
- Level the unit by keeping the top of the unit parallel with the ground to the best of your ability, by adding dirt, rocks, etc. under the corners as necessary.
- Gradually add dirt (about three inches at a time) around the unit, alternating sides while packing the dirt gently. Do not pack too tightly. Avoid bending in the sides of the unit. Continue to fill around the unit with dirt up to the ground level. You may need to add a little more dirt around the unit will packing it down with your foot. Also, you may need to add dirt after the first rain as the ground will normally sink slightly around the unit.
Starting The Doggie Dooley
Start by adding no more than two to three days works of stools to your unit. Then, mix two tablespoons of the digester powder with a pail of warm water and allow to set for ten minutes, pour mixture over the stools in the unit and fill the unit up to the top with water. If your water has a high chlorine level, let the water sit in the sun for at least two hours to evaporate the chlorine before adding digester powder.
Daily Operation Of The Doggie Dooley
- Add stools daily.
- Each week, add one tablespoon of digester powder to one quart of water. Pour over stools.
- Fill unit to the top with water two times a week. For quick draining soil, add water daily in order to keep the contents wet.
Note: If you have more than one dog you will need to increase the amount of digester powder that you add to the unit. Increase the standard one tablespoon by one tablespoon per large animal or 1/2 tablespoon per small animal per week.How To Get The Most From Your Digester
There are a few important things to remember to achieve the best service from your digester.
- Water, water, water.
Water is a must to any digester. In a septic system, gallons of water are added every day each time a toilet is flushed or a faucet is turned on. With a digester, water must be added at least once a week to achieve the digestive action required. The digestive power is inactive until combined with water. Lukewarm water is the most effective in starting the enzyme action as enzymes and bacteria in the soil they feed are most active between 60°F and 110°F. Adequate action will be obtained at any temperature above 40°F if enough water is added. The amount of water needed will vary with the condition of the earth surrounding the digester. A digester that is working will be from 1/4 to 1/2 full of semi-liquid (sludge). The level makes no difference as long as there is sufficient drainage and the mass in the digester is semi-liquid. If the mass in the digester dries out, the digesting action will slow or effectively stop. Be sure to add enough water to keep the stools in a semi-liquid state, even if it takes several times what is recommended. - Temperature
The temperature is very important in the rate of digestion. Digesting action starts at 40°F. Increase in 20°F will double the rate of digestion. Digestion action will stop when the ground temperature drops below 40°F for extended periods of time. - Drainage
Drainage is extremely important for the digester to work. The principle behind the digester is to use the digestion powder and water to convert solid stools to liquid, which will drain off and leach into the ground. If there is no drainage, the system will not work. If a digester will not drain, there is nothing that will make it work--except to move it to a location where there is adequate drainage. Nothing will digest standing water.
General Operation of Your Digester
Digestion powder should be added to your digester once each week at a minimum. The enzymatic action will convert solids to liquid. This liquid then drains off into the earth. Sufficient water must be added with the digestion powder to assure that it will work as intended.
Starting a Dried Out Digester
Add enough warm water to cover the stools. Mix a triple dose of digestion powder in a pail of warm water. Add this to the digester, then completely fill the digester with water. Repeat this process a few days to a week later until stools liquefy.
Multiple Digesters
Most of the digesters shown here are recommended for one to four average sized dogs. For kennels, the use of two or more digesters, used on alternate days or weeks, will greatly increase your capacity.
What Is Digester Powder?
Digester powder is environmentally safe and nontoxic but should be kept away from children and pets.
Caution: Avoid contact with eyes and open wounds; it may cause irritation. Do not take internally. Do not use with other chemicals--chlorine, acids, or caustics can affect the natural biological action.
First Aid: If contact occurs with the eyes, wash with water for at least 15 minutes. If contact occurs with open wounds, wash with soap and water. If accidentally ingested, rinse mouth and throat with water. Get prompt medical attention if irritation occurs.
Chemical Composition: The Digester Powder contains proteinase and an enzyme complex mixture. Does not contain any salmonella, shigella, E. coli, streptococcus, staphylococcus, algae sulfide, or any pathogenic organism. The enzymes in the Digester Powder are proteins and, as such, break down into harmless amino acids.

Selecting A Site
You can choose your yard, lawn, or flower garden, just use common sense by keeping away from tree roots and the path of your lawn mower (Doggie Dooley receives orders for new lids because people run over their Doggie Dooley with the mower).- It is best to place your unit a few feet away from any structures, such as your house or outbuilding, and try to avoid entrances.
- It is also recommended you should place it within reach of a water source, such as a garden hose.
- Try to locate the unit in an area of your yard with minimum clay content. The unit requires normal ground drainage to operate effectively.
- To check for normal drainage add five gallons of water to the 20" x 20" x 23" hole. If it drains well within 24 to 48 hours, the unit should operate properly.
Digging The Hole
- Dig the hole a minimum of 20" x 20" x 23" deep.
- If in digging the hole it gets too large that is still okay. The pyramid shape makes it easy to back fill the hole. It is better to have a hole a little larger, rather than too small.
- If the hole gets too deep you can adjust it by adding extra dirt, bricks, or stone under the corners of the unit until you get the correct height.
Placing Unit Into Ground

How Do I Assemble My Doggie Dooley

Step 4
Find the two pieces that make up the X brace, slide the two pieces together at the center. Insert the ends of the X brace into the matching holds at the bottom of the unit.
Step 5
Locate and assemble the four extension panels using the same method as above in Step 1.
Step 6
Turn main unit upside down resting on the lid. Fit the completed extension section over the unit. Pop the X brace into the holes on the extension section. Insert the remaining eight screws through the extension into the main unit. Your unit is now complete and ready to be placed into the ground.
As an option you can install the unit with the upper body above the ground. The hold you need will not be as deep, it is recommended you use in-ground installation, but if there is a problem with the depth of the hole, you may use this alternate installation. Note: In-ground installation will be better for areas with cold weather, since the unit will stay warmer and work longer in the late fall and early spring.
How Do I Start My Doggie Dooley

The Waster Terminator powder is environmentally safe and non-toxic but should be kept away from children and pets. If a pet consumes some of the digester powder give the pet plenty of water.
You may need to adjust the amount of Digester you use based on your application. Pet waste varies depending on the type of pet, the diet of the pet, and the amount of pet waste from one animal.

What if I go on vacation and do not use the Doggie Dooley for an extended period of time?
It is important to add stools on a daily basis. If you do not use the unit for a period of two weeks or longer it will be necessary to repeat the start up procedure.
Can I use my Doggie Dooley in the winter time or during cold weather?
Your Doggie Dooley is made from very durable material. It will not break or crack in cold weather or with normal use. However, the digester powder becomes inactive at 40°F and below. When the ground temperature drops below 40°F, do not add waste to the unit. Wait until the temperature rises, and follow the start up instructions again. If you have dug deep enough, depending on weather conditions, you may keep using the unit as long as it is digesting. Doggie Dooley recommends adding warm water exclusively in the winter.
Are flies or other pests attracted to the Doggie Dooley?
Insects may lay eggs on dog stools before they are put into the Doggie Dooley. If this happens, the eggs will turn into maggots. Because the digester will not kill anything alive it will be necessary to spray the contents with a bug bomb. Usually fly eggs will not hatch unless the contents of the unit are too dry.
