Herman Nell Joins PETCO as Chief Information Officer

SAN DIEGO (Oct. 29, 2008) - Herman Nell, an executive with extensive technology leadership experience across several industries, has joined PETCO as Chief Information Officer, the company announced today. He will lead and manage the information technology function and activities for PETCO, a pet specialty retail leader with nearly 950 stores in all 50 states across the U.S.

"Herman is a demonstrated leader with a wealth of experience in information technology, and we are pleased to welcome him to PETCO," said Mike Foss, PETCO Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. "We're confident he will bring significant value to our team."

Nell reports to Foss and is based at PETCO's National Support Center in San Diego, where the company was formed in 1965.

Before joining PETCO, Nell most recently served as Executive Vice President and CIO for School Specialty Inc., a consumer goods supplier to the education and retail industries based in Greenville, Wis. Previously, he held the same position at FISKARS Brands, Inc., and also held senior roles in information technology at Motorola and the Medusa Corporation, and was a principal consultant for Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Nell is a founding member of the Fox Valley CIO Forum and the Technology Leadership Forum of the Retail Industry Leadership Association. He earned a master's degree in business economics from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
