Sustaining Community Animal Welfare Initiatives
In addition to our commitment to training and education of companion animal owners, we pursue a range of activities in our communities to support programs and organizations dedicated to animal welfare, responsible pet parenting and the benefits of the human-animal bond. These initiatives include the following:
- The PETCO Foundation, our non-profit animal charity, has since its inception in 1999 raised more than $37 million for thousands of animal welfare organizations. To date, this funding has been used to support:
- Nationwide and local companion animal adoption campaigns
- Numerous spay and neuter fundraisers locally and across the country; and
- Pet-assisted therapy and a wide range of education programs.
- Through partnerships with local and national animal welfare groups dedicated to the human-animal bond, PETCO has made possible the adoption of millions of companion animals. Every store across the nation has a shelter partner they work with on a regular basis.
- Reflecting our love of animals above all else, we are committed to the philosophy of "Adoption First" - in which we encourage potential pet parents to consider the adoption of homeless companion animals before buying a pet. We also partner with Petfinder.com, a nationwide organization that directs people to local shelters and features animals who are ready to go to their new homes.
