Application for Support

To Apply for Petco Foundation Support

If you have previously applied for and received support through our on line interface within the past year, you will need to file the requisite follow up form to applying again.

Before going into our support site to fill out the application form, please have the following information ready:

1. Official name and address info for your group
2. An email where you can be reached
3. A name for the Project/Request you are making
4. A brief description of the Project/Request *
5. Amount requested or estimated retail amount for products requested **
6. The geographic area where the funding will be applied
7. The type of support you'll be requesting
8. Your mission statement (can be uploaded as pdf or typed out)
9. If you are a current Charitable Partner, amount of funding received previously
10. If you are not currently a Charitable Partner (have never received funds from Petco Foundation)
    • Completed and signed copy of the IRS W-9 Form
    • Copy of 501(c)(3) tax determination letter, Form 1023, or Government or Municipal Agency Form (blank document also available from within the Application site)

If you will be requesting a product grant ***, you will be asked on the Application for Support for the following information (you need to go into a Petco store), for each of the items being requested:

1. Sku (a 5-7 digit number; a sales associate can help you identify this number)
2. Description of the item(s)
3. Quantity
4. The address of the local Petco store near you

You are now ready to apply for support from the Petco Foundation.

If you have not previously applied for support through our on line interface, you will need to set up an account, even if you are already a Charitable Partner. If you have applied through the on line interface previously, the username is the email address you used when you first set up the on line account. You must have access to the original email address used.

* Projects/Costs Petco Foundation cannot currently fund: Please be advised that the Petco Foundation no longer funds horse rescue or wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. The Petco Foundation does not fund salaries of any kind.

** Petco Foundation Indirect Costs Policy: It is the Petco Foundation's policy not to pay indirect costs on any proposal requesting an award of $100,000 or less. For research grant proposals requesting over $100,000, the Petco Foundation will consider indirect costs equaling up to 10% of the direct costs of the proposed project. The Petco Foundation does not pay government-approved overhead rates on research grants. The following expenses are examples of charges the Petco Foundation considers institutional infrastructure costs and will not allow as direct costs in a research budget: office rent, grants and contracts office expenses, institutional and departmental administrative expenses, institutional and departmental information technology expenses, and accounting and legal services.

For all other grant proposals requesting an award greater than $100,000 it is the Petco Foundation's policy not to pay indirect costs. In these grant proposals, necessary administrative costs related to the request can be built into the direct costs of the proposal, but the Petco Foundation will generally not accept institutional infrastructure costs to be included within the budget.

The Petco Foundation reviews each budget individually for the appropriateness of the direct costs being requested.

*** Products Petco Foundation cannot currently fund: Currently, we are unable to supply Aspen muzzles/ harnesses/ collars/ leashes, "Booda", Iams, or Eukanuba products through our Distribution Centers. Also, if requesting food it's a good idea to provide information for a substitute for each item, since different brands/flavors are occasionally unavailable at the local Distribution Center, and can't be requested at that time.)

To Apply for Petco Store Adoption Partner Status

All Petco stores are encouraged to partner with local adoption groups for adoption events at Petco stores. In order to become a Petco Adoption Partner, the group must be a qualified non-profit under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.

All adoption groups/agencies must complete the online application.
