Your List of Emergency Numbers

During a medical crisis, the last thing you want to do is tear through the yellow pages looking for a nearby emergency clinic. Stay prepared by posting veterinary emergency numbers and medical information near your phone or on the refrigerator. Your list should include the following:

  • Your veterinarian's name, clinic name, address, phone number, and business hours
  • Directions or a map to your veterinarian's office
  • A phone number for the nearest emergency veterinary clinic and its business hours
  • Directions or a map to the emergency clinic
  • The phone number of the ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center (800-548-2423)
  • A list of medications your pet is taking, both prescription and over-the-counter - including information on the dosage and how often you give it

If you're leaving your pet with a pet sitter, add a number where you can be reached.

This list helps you breathe easier, and it becomes invaluable if someone else must seek emergency care for your pet. You wouldn't leave your child at home without giving a baby sitter this vital information. Don't leave your pet's caretaker in the dark, either.
