You can provide a healthy, happy environment for your guinea pig with little equipment and a few supplies, but there are some essentials you would do well to have. It's a good idea to have most of them on hand when you first bring your guinea pig home and you can always add to or vary your supplies later on.

• Cage - an approximately 30"l x 15"w x 15"h escape-proof habitat with a solid surface area and plenty of room to exercise and play makes a great home for one guinea pig
• Food Bowl and Water Bottle
• Bedding - shavings or pelleted/recycled paper (cedar-based products may cause harm and are not recommended)
• Hide box or place to hide
• Nesting box
• Guinea Pig Toys (as many and varied as possible)
• Chew stick

• Timothy hay
• High-quality guinea pig food
• Vitamin C supplement
• Fresh fruit and vegetables

• Brush (cat brushes are suitable)

• Cage-cleaning Supplies
• Cage Disinfectant/Mild Soap (wash and disinfect the cage before first placing your guinea pig in it)
